Hong Kong Airport Achieves First ‘One ID’ Certification

Hong Kong International Airport and Air New Zealand have become the first organisations to achieve One ID Certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Announced on 28 October, the certifications were presented at IATA’s World Passenger Symposium in Macao.

The scheme assesses whether organisations’ digital identity and biometric processes meet IATA requirements. Both recipients were certified across all areas applicable to their operations, establishing a benchmark for the programme. One ID aims to enable passengers to establish their identity and demonstrate that they meet travel requirements before reaching the airport. Biometric recognition can then reduce repeated presentation of passports and boarding passes at airport checkpoints.

Certification covers four business process areas: digitalisation of admissibility; contactless travel; biometric handling; and privacy, consent and governance. It is available to airlines, airports and technology providers, with assessments tailored to the capabilities each organisation delivers.
