In just under two months the Optical & Digital Document Security (ODDS) conference will get underway in Vienna, Austria. Postponed from this month, ODDS is attracting growing interest as travel restrictions are being lifted around the world. There are already over 100 participants registered for the event, which features 30 papers, a supporting table-top exhibition and preconference seminars on standards and data security.
ODDS merges the extremely successful Optical Document Security conference with the newer Digital Document Security conference to recognise the growing interdependence of these two domains. Protecting our financial transactions and our identity is of paramount importance as we become more dependent on digital systems – this conference is where the two worlds come together to examine the best ways to do this. Presentations cover the gamut from the newest optical security features to the latest methods for linking and protecting online and physical identity records.
The conference opens with a keynote presentation by David Birch, leading author and commentator on digital monetary and identity security, who will also be on the panel that closes the event, examining the future evolution of optical and digital document security. In between, conference sessions cover the transition from physical to digital; new approaches to document security; securing currency and payments; securing identity; securing health and vaccination passes, and micro- and nanoscale optical structures.
The conference dinner on 12 April features a table-top exhibition which will run on to the second day to give exhibitors an extended opportunity to show participants their latest techniques, systems and features. A dozen exhibitors have already booked their space, ensuring a fascinating selection of the latest approaches to optical and digital security.
The event opens with a seminar on International Standards. Led by Dr Alan Hodgson, who has vast experience in relevant standards, he will be joined by Loffie Jordaan of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), who will explain the new ISO/IEC 18013-5 International Standard for Mobile Driver’s Licences (mDL).
This seminar is followed by a masterclass on securing digital currency and identity, led by Dr Herman Sterzinger, former COO of Veridos, currently Chairman of the Advisory Board of AUGENTIC and also lecturer in Informatics at the Technical University of Munich. This class will be a must for everyone involved in protecting transactions or identity online.

I hope to see you in Vienna on 11-13 April!
